Lillian D. Mccarthy, 82, of Hillsdale, NJ, passed away on Wednesday, October 5th, 2016. Married to Vincent Mccarthy for 59 years, Lillian was a member of of the Hillsdale Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary.

Cornelius "Neil" Hering, 90, lifelong resident of Hillsdale, NJ died on Friday, October 4, 2013. He was born on June 19, 1923 in Hillsdale, Neil was an active volunteer in town; he helped start the Hillsdale Little League and was a charter member of the Hillsdale Ambulance Corps. He was also a member of the Westwood Elks for forty-nine years as well as the Hillsdale Fire Dept. for thirty-seven years. He was named Chief in 1957. Neil also helped start the Friends of the Pascack Brook, which holds an annual Kids Fishing contest. In 2010, American Legion Post 162 honored him to be named grand marshall of the Hillsdale Memorial Day Parade. A World War II U.S. Air Force Veteran, Neil was discharged a sergeant serving in the American and Italian campaigns; he flew 18 missions in B-17 Bomber Planes over Northern Italy, PO Valley and Southern France with the 15th Air Force 88th Bomb Group. He was awarded the distinguished unit badge with one oak leaf cluster European African Middle Eastern Service Medal.

Robert "Bob" W. Hewitt, 94 of Hillsdale passed away on Wednesday, August 21, 2013. Born on July 31, 1919, He served in the Army in the rank of Major, working on crew assignments for bomber planes, including the planned Atomic bomb attacks on Japan. He was a trustee on the Hillsdale Library Board, a member of the Hillsdale Our Town Committee, a member of the Fifty-Plus club, a member of the General Leonard E. Wood American Legion Post 162 Hillsdale as well as an Honorary Member of the Hillsdale Volunteer Ambulance Service and the Hillsdale Volunteer Fire Department. Additionally he was a generous supporter of civic, humane and charitable organizations.

Neil (Sarge) B. Stewart, May 15, 1930 to July 12, 2010. Neil was a Sergeant on the Hillsdale Police force in 1984. He also served as a Sergeant in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a fixture in the town and was one of its oldest continuous residents. His knowledge of the town's origins was deep. He was one of the first policemen in the Hillsdale.

Vincent R. McCarthy, 81, of Hillsdale, NJ, passed away on Tuesday, September 18, 2012. He was a member of the Hillsdale Police Department where he served as Detective Lieutenant. He was a graduate of the F.B.I. Academy in Quantico, VA. He was a Navy Veteran during the Korean War aboard the USS Coral Sea. He was a member of the Hillsdale Volunteer Fire Dept., Hillsdale Volunteer Ambulance Corps and past Commander of American Legion Post #162, Hillsdale, NJ.

In memory of my Dad Carl Pfranger.Its been almost 50 years since you died. The Pfrangers moved to Hillsdale in 1926. Carl and Ernie grew up on Hillsdale Ave. Then Carl moved to Oak Ridge Rd married Phyllis and his family lived there til last year. I love you Dad and Mom

Frederick W. Winkler 87, a lifelong resident of Hillsdale, NJ died on July 25, 2013, 65 yr member, past Chief, and past President of the Hillsdale Volunteer Fire Dept. Navy Veteran of WWII, a 67 year member and past Commanderd of the American Legion Post 162 of Hillsdale, N.J
